NOT AT ALL BAD

UNEDITED SAMPLE EDITORIAL ARTICLE
By Samantha Grace Ignacio Cruz

Food prices, gas prices, charge of basic commodities, tuition fees- where are they all going? They are going up, and they have no intention of soon coming back down. And because of this horrific fact, the people’s wages and money, have no where to go but down. Prices go up, people’s money go down- that is the way life is balanced nowadays.

Due to this rising issue in our country, we cannot help but ask, who is to blame? Do we blame the government, for suspected graft and corruption? Do we blame the Filipino people for their illegal activities done that caused the nation to grow poorer, and so prices skyrocketed? Do we blame the authorities of other countries because of their hunger for wealth, that they satisfy their need by getting it from others? Do we blame the natural calamities that cause fishermen and farmers to raise their prices? Of course not! We have no right to blame.

Blaming, ranting, and complaining will not get us anywhere. It will, in fact, only make the problem worse. To the problem of rising prices, we add the rage and scandals of the ones who fight and strike, wanting prices to go down again.

Before we can solve anything, we must understand.

We must understand that even if the government is proven to be corrupt, it is not because of them that prices are rising. We must understand that the Filipino people who do illegal acts only do so because of poverty, and if they end their activities, it still does not solve the issue. We must understand that authorities of other nations are only trying to protect and care for their own lands and countrymen. We must understand that nature cannot be changed, and it only does the most cruel of things as a reciprocation of what man does to nature. We must truly understand.

The people that we are complaining to, the senators, authorities, president and the like, aren’t they people too? People who also have needs, who also have families to take care of, who are also troubled by this issue?

Yes, they most certainly are. So why complain to them, when they are one of us? Why fight them, if we can just cooperate? Why initiate war when we can initiate peace?

As saying goes- money is the root of all evil. And it certainly applies to this. We are fighting and experiencing hardships right now because of money. Look at us, what has happened?

If we take a moment to realize, continuous rising of prices is not the end of the world. If we try to look at an optimistic light, this problem is not to be the cause for giving up. It is, in my opinion, an opportunity for change.

Some remarkable people are already cooperating in finding solutions to this problem. For instance, researchers and scientists are finding alternatives to the resources we use at present, to make our lives easier. Another, are the organizations which aim to help the poor and needy, to help them through poverty.

You see? There are people out there who are willing to go out of their way to help the world. They do not complain about the problem, rather, they find ways to solve the problem, and make it easier for others.

As I mentioned, prices are going up, and people’s money is going down. But let us try not to look at this as a bad situation. Let us look at it as a challenge to make a change, for the betterment of others, as well as ourselves.
