RCBC Bank Cabuyao branch suspect killed and three others were captured by the authority after an encounter at the corner of the Cartimar Market in Pasay City Saturday evening at around 6 p.m., July 5.
Dead on the spot was one of the alleged robbers, Albert Amedilla, who had a bullet wound on his head. The three others, who were also with the latter in a Starex van with the license plate WNS 958, namely George Avila, Pascual Mata, and Roy Fernandez, went straight to the National Capital Region Police Office of the Philippine National Police for further interrogation.
According to Senior Superintendent Marieto Valerio, the chief of the Pasay City Police, the said suspects were followed by the intelligence officers. The suspects noticed that they were being followed so they let out several gunshots towards the authority. The police didn’t waste any more time and directly counterattacked the suspects. Fortunately, they were able to directly shot Almedilla.
One of the suspects, Fernandez, also known as “Ranger” was identified as a former soldier and is said to be the leader of the group who also recently robbed the Landbank branch in West Avenue in Quezon City and the bloodiest bank robbery in history, the RCBC Bank robbery wherein they literally left the people inside lifeless.
The authorities had the suspects under surveillance who are alleged to be former members of one of the country’s rowdiest robbery gangs, the Kuratong Baleleng robbery gang.
The police had already received a report that the group will rob one of Maynilad’s Water Service branch offices at that same day.
As soon as they noticed that the said van was surveying the area, they immediately responded. However, the group fired the operatives when they were cornered near the Cartimar Market.
Evidently, the van was used in several criminal activities already. Bullet holes were found all around the van, only covered with packaging tape.
The authorities are still investigating the said incident.
