All over the country, peace education will soon be added to the public school curriculum.
Signed by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) Secretary Hermogenes Esperon Jr., Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Jesli Lapus and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner Nona Ricafort, the guidelines of Executive Order 570 will serve as a way to establish peace education to both students and teachers.

Having a primary objective to eradicate biases, prejudices and discrimination, it will promote peace and equality among people with different cultures such as Muslims and other ethnic groups.

“We are trying to build a culture of peace and we believe that the culture of peace should be started at a young age,” Esperon said.
He also added that OPAPP is partnering with the DepEd and CHED to incorporate peace building to the elementary level, high school level and tertiary level.
Teaching peace education to the youth would be a better approach to institutionalize a “culture of peace” among the future generation of the country.

Meanwhile, CHED has offered to present peace building to teachers through trainings and seminars.

Aside from that, additional tools such as instructional materials will be made, published and distributed.
