TAKING RISKS

UNEDITED SAMPLE FEATURE ARTICLE
By Marian Denise Glipo Basallote
IV - Madame Marie Curie

Risks always appear to us even if we do not ask them to. They are laid upon our hands and the entire decision-making is left unto us. We either hold or lose grip of them. Unsurprisingly, we get caught in a frustrating moment for we are incapable of choosing the right thing to do. The courage and strong will that we once had drain out of our systems. We hear no voice coming from our mouths. We are left defenseless and vulnerable.

Risks are indeed challenging. At times, we even get too overwhelmed by them that we allow ourselves to cringe in fear. We see no more worth in taking risks because we feel fright in our hearts. Risks bring along consequences with them and we are naturally afraid to experience them in our lives. We are reluctant to take risks because we are already used to having the great things in life without too exerting too much effort. We usually make things happen the way we desire them to.

Risks begin to bother our souls when we finally find comfort in our lives. Like in the form of friendship, we are forced to decide whether we should readily give our trust to the friends we have just found or not. We hesitate to divulge our deep and dark secrets to them because we do not know how they would respond and react. We unconsciously allow cowardice to rule in our hearts. But, eventually, we get convinced that there is nothing wrong with taking that risk and that there is actually beauty concealed within it.

When our loved ones betray and hurt our feelings, we usually feel immeasurable pain and anguish. Our hearts moan in agony and we seem not to entertain the idea of forgiveness. Even if our loved ones are already down on their knees, asking for forgiveness, we still get too blinded by the bitterness in our hearts. We choose to ignore the risk of fixing things up and thus, we unconsciously put ourselves in a world of misery. Only after sometime do we realize that everything could have turned out much better had we taken that risk.

Taking risks is all about taking in courage with the realization of our responsibilities. Everything depends upon the decisions we make in our lives. Risks do not always guarantee satisfaction for they can become deceitful. But, most of the time, risks are capable of bringing wonderful changes in our lives. We either hold or lose grip of them.
