After his semifinal victory in the Wimbledon Open, Roger Federer found time to watch a few games of Rafael Nadal’s semifinal match. Federer does have a DVD of Nadal’s match but does not intend to use it for their face off Sunday.

Federer is confident that he knows all that he needs to know of Nadal. He’ll have to back up those words in their face off on Sunday. That will be the sixth Grand Slam title match between the No.1-ranked Federer and the No.2-ranked Nadal, more than any other rival pair in the 40-year Open era.

They faced in the past three French Open finals. Nadal won all three. This upcoming battle will be their third consecutive Wimbledon final, with Federer winning the first two.

Some significant milestones are at stake Sunday.

Federer, who has tied Bjorn Borg’s record of winning 5 consecutive Wimbledon titles, is going for his sixth Wimbledon title. Nadal, on the other hand, wants to be the first to win both the French Open and Wimbledon in the same season.

This will be their 14th tournament title match, putting the pair 4th in the Open era history. Following behind Ivan Lendl vs. John McEnroe (20 matches); Andre Agassi vs. Pete Sampras (16); Boris Becker vs. Stefan Edberg (16); and Jimmy Connors vs. McEnroe (15).

Federer, being 26, and Nadal, being 22, the number of matches will surely increase in the following years.
