SMALL AS A MUSTARD

UNEDITED SAMPLE LITERARY ARTICLE
By Jezel Christine Nolasco Quevada
IV - Madame Marie Curie

“Our faith is like a mustard seed, though it is the smallest seed you plant the ground, when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds of the air perch in it shade.”

Faith is believing that great things can happen. It gives us assurance about things we cannot see. It helps us understand how unbelievable creations were made. Faith makes us realize that anything can be possible.

In our world today, many find it hard to have faith especially when a terrible storm struck their lives. The storm that hit them ceased them from hoping that things will get better. They tend to forget the people and worse, God, who is always there for them. They give up easily not knowing that it is not totally a burden rather it may be something worth gaining. Indeed, living on Earth is hard yet having hope and faith will eventually help you get through it.

Have anyone realize how pilots can fly planes at a very high altitude; how divers can swim to the deepest oceans; how surgeons can operate severe injuries or diseases; or maybe how the deaf, blind, mute and crippled can live normally? It is only by faith that these all happen. Therefore, since we are surrounded by a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.

Faith intertwines our lives. Not all human beings are blessed but everyone can be a blessing to others just like the story in one of the renowned reading materials. There was a contest set for blind men. They should race in the plaza and follow the sound of a bell made by someone assigned to them. Are you wondering how they were able to do this? Certainly, it is very astonishing but these blind men were able to race because they gave faith and trusted not only their sense of hearing but moreover the persons who were ringing the bell. The persons ringing the bell have been a blessing to these handicaps. Without them, the handicaps cannot get through the race.

You see, if these blind men did not give their faith to those persons they might have lost their way. It is not always easy to give trust to anyone especially to strangers but because of the small amount of faith they had, they were able to entrust their fate to the persons who rang the bell and they were able to accomplish the race.

We also can do such things and even greater than this even if our faith is as small as a mustard seed. Though it is the smallest seed you plant in the ground, when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants. Our faith can also grow bigger like this seed as we continue to trust and hope that anything could be possible. Faith grasps us, travels all over our system, and redefines who we are. It will help us lives our lives without uncertainties and it will keep our eyes on Jesus and His promises to us.
