WHAT'S SWEEPING THE STUDENTS: THE TWILIGHT SAGA

UNEDITED SAMPLE LITERARY ARTICLE

When you walk through the hallways of Makati Science High School, the first things you will see are –of course!- students. But what’s that their holding, moreover, what is it that their reading? Surprising, but true -that their reading. The only time I saw students swarming over a book is when “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” were published. And this time, it’s even bigger –trust me, I could tell. Sure enough, by this time, every one in school has already read it.

Why’s it so popular? Likely because of the good story it contains. It is about a girl named Isabella Swan –or Bella as she prefers- fell in love with a vampire named Edward Cullen. Fantasy –because of Edward- and nightmare –again, because Edward’s a vampire- woven into a heightened reality pulled in one direction by her passion for him and her ties with her best friend werewolf, Jacob Black. Though Jacob has only little to do in the first book, he was the clue to the horrifying truth of what Edward is.

It’s a book for young adults, with matching explicitness, love story and the terrifying suspense and drama that will want you to come back for more.

It all began where here it was dreamt by Stephenie Meyer on a hot night of June 2, 2003 as only two couple in a meadow, chatting. She imagined them with two gusts of ideas which struck from her own imagination. One is that the vampire -which she dreamed was sparkling bright from the sun- attracted the average girl who was irrevocably in love with him –though she never knew it until then. And two, the vampire was keeping his thirst to himself because he wanted the girl to live for him to love. Eventually, love conquered all as it may seem for the immortal gave in for the mortal, like the masochistic lion –as Edward said- fell for the stupid lamb –as Bella also said.

In this book, it shows daily life on a heightened basis –with the vampires, werewolves and all the mythical crap- which teaches young adults like us the importance of these emotions, feelings, to make a bond stronger than soldering a diamond to another diamond. It shows us the discipline we must attain and keep for the rest of our lives to get the things we want. In the long run, it mostly applies one rule, “LOVE CONQUERS ALL” even for the immortals and mortals –if there were any.

So read this hypnotic, thrilling, chilling, novel and find out if there’s a happy ever after for this soon-to-be family. Who knows, maybe you’ll come across Forks, Washington and find your dream come true Edward Cullen there.
